Deadly Floods Hit Kenya as 42 Die and 50,000 Affected
The people of Kenya are struggling with flood conditions and due to heavy floods 42 people have died as of March 9, 2026. The most affected area is the capital city, Nairobi.The rain started on Friday and led to the river overflowing , flooding low-lying areas and destroying over 170 vehicles. Many died due to electrocution after the breakdown of power cables. More than 50,000 people have been affected by the floods. The floods have affected about 50,000 people. The floods have caused massive disruptions to normal activities, including flights being grounded at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The president of the country, William Ruto, has deployed the military to assist in the search and rescue operation. He has also released emergency foodstuffs into the affected areas. According to scientists, the heavy rainfall bursts experienced in the country during the “long rains” period are a result of climate change. This phenomenon is twice as likely to occur as it was in the past.
